Obviating Realism

Claude Monet was born in France in 1840. 20 years later the first colour photographs were produced.

So what does watchmaking have to do with impressionism? Objectively there is no need for expensive mechanical watches. There are far more practical and accurate ways of telling the time. Just like in the late 19th century, there was no longer need to accurately potray a landscpe on a linen canvas.
Things that will never become obsolete are to need to express oneself and create and feel something. Just like "I
mpression, soleil levant", a fine mechnical timepiece can convey an emotion. Whether it's pride for the watchmaker who crafter or joy for one that carries it on ones wrist. Impressionists were relieved from the duty of duplicating the world as it is. They would paint to convey a feelinf. They would paint for the sake of painting. Likewise modern watchmakers can do watchmaking simply for the sake of watchmaking.

I haven't created phenomenal impressionistic paintings but knowing great impressionistc artwork exists out there is a great source of inspiration.
